The Archive Building Project. This was a first year project for Design Studio. The aim of this project was to design a building to house an architectural project archive, to become the home of all the work done by university students. The images above are front & side elevations of my finished design.

Inspirations

The image on the right display sketches of buildings that inspired me to create an initial idea. Each drawing is from different architects some with very different styles and use of materials, but I wanted to incorporate an aspect of each of them into my design.

Initial Ideas

The drawings on the left are the initial ideas I came up with. I wanted to use a different element from the inspiration sketches above. I used a curved oversized roof design inspired by Zaha Hadid’s work. Next I designed the main building structure in a style of two architectural firms: Tobi Architects and Whipple Russell Architects. Lastly I designed pillars in the style of Shigeru Ban.

Elevations

On the right are sketch elevations of the initial concept of my design for the Archive Building.

Floor Plans & Section

On the left are images of the floor plans and a section. The ground floor plan is on the bottom left and the top floor on the top left. On the right of those is a detailed section drawing. All drawings are to the scale 1:100.
